How it works
Hourly advice · $300 an hour

Not every question needs a full plan.

Sit down with an experienced advisor and get clear guidance on a specific decision. Hourly advice may be right if you’re thinking about:

  • When to retire
  • When to start CPP or OAS
  • RRSP and RRIF withdrawals
  • Pension options or a commuted value
  • A severance or retirement package
  • A major investment decision
  • Tax-efficient retirement income
  • Helping an aging parent
  • An inheritance
  • Selling a home or property
  • A second opinion on your plan or portfolio
  • Something else on your mind
Retirement Blueprint

Three Blueprints, priced up front.

The price depends on how many moving parts your situation has. We’ll recommend one in our first conversation, and you’ll have a fixed price in writing before we begin.

Ongoing partnership

How ongoing partnership works.

Retirement can last 30 years or more, and markets, tax rules and families change along the way. Ongoing partnership combines your plan, your investments and continuing advice for one fee, based on the assets we manage: 1% a year, and lower on assets above $1 million. It rises when your portfolio grows and falls when it falls, and we will show you exactly what it means for you, in dollars, before you decide.

What the 1% includes

Planning, portfolio management, rebalancing, income and tax strategy, CPP and OAS coordination, estate reviews, regular meetings and ongoing access to Krystian. No extra charge for plan updates.

What it doesn’t include

The investments themselves have their own costs, such as ETF or mutual fund management expense ratios. We show you these before you invest, and they appear in your annual reporting.

Taxes on the fee

HST applies to advisory fees. Fees on non-registered accounts may be tax-deductible; fees on RRSPs, RRIFs and TFSAs are not. Your tax professional can confirm what applies to you.

Already have an advisor?

You don’t have to leave them.

Maybe you’re comfortable with your investments but want a second opinion on your retirement strategy. That’s perfectly fine.

We’ll review your situation, point out gaps and opportunities, and give you recommendations to discuss with your current advisor. A second set of experienced eyes can make a real difference.

100%credited back

Start small. Your fee still counts.

If you start with hourly advice or a Blueprint and become an ongoing partnership client within 12 months, we credit what you paid in full against your advisory fees. You never pay twice for the same advice.

No surprises. No pressure.

Before we begin, we’ll tell you four things.

Then you decide whether to go ahead. Understanding your financial future should include understanding what you pay for it.

  1. What we’re going to do
  2. What you’ll receive
  3. What it will cost, in dollars
  4. How we’re paid
Common questions

Questions about fees

Is the first conversation free?

Yes. The first 30-minute conversation is complimentary, with no obligation to transfer your investments and no pressure to proceed. We’ll recommend the option that fits, even if it’s the smallest one.

Do I have to move my investments to work with you?

No. Hourly advice and Blueprints are advice only. Many people take their Blueprint to their current advisor or carry it out themselves.

How is the 1% fee paid?

It’s calculated on the value of the accounts we manage and deducted directly from your account, so you never write a cheque. Every deduction appears on your statements.

Why is there a $500,000 minimum for ongoing partnership?

Ongoing partnership includes a lot of hands-on work every year. Below $500,000, a Blueprint or hourly advice is usually better value, and we’ll tell you so.

Do I pay commissions on top of the fee?

No. Investments in a fee-based account don’t carry sales commissions or deferred sales charges. Product costs such as fund management expense ratios still apply, and we show them to you before you invest.

What if insurance is part of my plan?

If you choose to buy insurance through us, the insurance company pays a commission. We’ll tell you about it before you buy, and buying insurance is never a condition of our advice.

Can I leave at any time?

Yes. There are no exit penalties from us. Standard account transfer fees set by the dealer may apply, and we’ll tell you what they are up front.

Are fees tax-deductible?

Advisory fees on non-registered accounts may be deductible. Fees for registered accounts and fees for financial plans generally are not. Please check with your tax professional.

What is CRM3 total cost reporting?

It is the third phase of Canada’s client relationship model. Dealers began collecting fund cost data on January 1, 2026, and starting in 2027 annual statements must show the ongoing costs of owning investment funds and segregated funds, including MERs and TERs, in dollars and percentages. It adds to the advisory fees and charges that statements already report.

RetirementIQ is a registered trade name of Designed Securities Ltd. All fees are in Canadian dollars and subject to HST. Fees and services are set out in a written agreement before any work begins and may change with notice. Fee-based accounts are offered through Designed Securities Ltd. Product costs, including management expense ratios, are separate and disclosed before you invest. This page is general information and is not tax advice.
